MS Rosters Announced

First of all, thank you to everyone for coming out to Sunday's tryout and making it a fantastic event. We had ~ 80 girls and 150 boys from 34 different schools across the city (and some beyond the city of Seattle). A cornerstone of the Seven Hills mission is to bring together youth players from all over Seattle to play and learn together at a high level, and you all made that happen Sunday. Thank you!

Our big hope is that everyone, even those not in the Seven Hills program this year, will continue playing and learning as much as possible. In forming these squads, we were faced with dozens of players who we literally could have described as perfect for our program, who we just didn't have space for this year. It was heartbreaking - especially at the middle school level. We evaluated the character and talent of players, and then worked to create opportunities for as many players from different experiences, schools, and areas of the city as possible to be involved. If we weren't limited by coach time, field space, and money, we'd take everyone in the program. That's why we're offering free weekly pickup, open to all MS players - read more below!

One goal we have in building this program is to make it scalable and sustainable. If things go smoothly in this pilot year, we hope to be able to secure more resources like field time and coaches in order to add more teams next year. Our goal is not to exclude, it's to include as many as possible with the resources we have this year, and hope others take advantage of outside opportunities and join us next year. The Franklin HS turf was filled with great attitudes and talent on Sunday. Each of you should be proud of your contribution.

2. Confirm/Relinquish Your Roster Spot

There is a waitlist to be in the program. Players must be able to commit to the mission, schedule, and all expectations of the program.

Please be aware that all players will be expected to not only attend training sessions, but to participate in team-wide leadership development and community service activities. These will be planned within the practice schedule linked below.

Please review the schedule to be sure that you can uphold your commitment to the program this season: http://www.sevenhillsultimateclub.com/#!practice-schedule/br2ct

Next, please examine the player contract attached to the announcement email. Be sure that you can commit to upholding the program's mission, as well as the expectations detailed there, required of all members. For those accepting a spot in the program, the deadline to turn in player contracts is Sunday, December 20th (2nd practice).

Rostered players - please email sevenhillsultimate@gmail.com by Friday, December 11th to either confirm or relinquish your spot - we expect to hear from you either way. The first practice is this Sunday!

3. Feedback

All players on the above rosters will receive feedback from their new coaches at the start of Seven Hills Season.

If you did not make it into the program this year, and would like feedback on how you can improve as a player and/or teammate, players should email us at sevenhillsultimate@gmail.com with a brief self-reflection, responding to the 4 prompts in italics below.

This will be forwarded to the appropriate coach, who will respond with feedback. Please allow some time for this - we are fielding a lot of logistics and emails right now as we launch the program for the first season. Requests for explanation of placement will not be fielded without this player self-reflection.

What do you consider your current on-field strengths? Why? (Examples - breaking the mark, defensive footwork)

What do you consider your current on-field weaknesses? What are you working on? Why?

What do you consider your current strengths as a teammate or leader? Why? (Examples - resilience in the face of mistakes, accepting feedback, putting the team before myself, etc.)

What do you consider your current weaknesses as a teammate or leader? What are you working on? Why?

4. Other Playing Opportunities!

We sincerely hope that all players, both within this year's program and beyond, will take advantage of as many opportunities to play and learn as possible. We will be adding a "Other Playing Opportunities" page to our website in the coming weeks. But in the meantime, we really hope that you'll take advantage of the pick up sessions we've scheduled at Genesee Playfield this winter.

The pickup schedule is here: http://www.sevenhillsultimateclub.com/#!practice-schedule/br2ct

This free, Seven Hills-hosted pickup occurs almost every Sunday afternoon this winter. We have the fields (Genesee) reserved, come play! All are welcome, grades 6-12. Pickup will be facilitated by members of the 7 Hills HS teams, and there will be adult supervisors present. Our goal is to get guest coaches out to as many sessions as possible to do a bit of free instruction as well! Details on that TBD. If you are a parent/guardian/adult/coach and can volunteer to supervise or coach a Seven Hills pickup session, please email us! (sevenhillsultimate@gmail.com)

8th grade boys are also eligible for the new DiscNW winter boys league - more info here: https://www.discnw.org/events/WinterYouthClubLeague/

Thank you again for all of the time, energy, and passion everyone put into our program by being part of tryouts. We hope to see you all soon!
